DAVID CAL

      On October 10, 1982 a legend was born down in spain. Who would have known how great of an athlete he would end up being. So u ask yourself who was born ? The great David Cal Figueroa was born. David Cal Figueroa is a famous Spanish Olympic sprint canoer for Spain . He also has made history while being on Spain’s Olympic team . David Cal is the first canoer from spain to win an olympic title !David Cal started canoeing when he was nine years old , and won his first big bronze medal at the 1999 Junior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia; and got his first silver medal in the 2004 world olympics in Athina . His latest victory was in London in summer of 2012. Overall he has won four silver and one gold metal . He has the overall most medals than anyone in Spain History. In my eyes he is just a living legend because he ail only get better and win more medals that reflects on his country. This shows no matter were you are fro hard work pays off .

The Sports Kingdom

  Having hosted the 1982 FIFA World Cup and the 1992 Summer Olympics, as well as boasting some of sport’s best competitors, such as tennis superstar Rafael Nadal and the renowned Barcelona FC, Spain not only has a history of sport but also a passion. While each province in Spain enjoys spectating and participating in a range of sporting activity, the region which stands out in terms of enthusiasm and vigor is, undoubtedly, Granada. When you think of what Granada has to offer in the sporting field, the list is truly endless. Granada sports range from traditional favorites such as tennis, squash, golf, skiing and swimming, to more adventurous and daring pursuits, such as airsports, watersports, horse-riding and mountain-biking. However, the most prominent sporting activities are soccer and basketball. Granada was the third Andalusian soccer team to compete in La Liga and has gained a significant army of followers over the years. Basketball has a great presence in the sporting scene in Spain and is beginning to rival soccer in terms of popularity, as is evidenced in the ever-increasing support for Granada.

Spanish Festivals & Holidays

Public holidays celebrated in Spain include a mix of religious (Roman Catholic Religion), national observances. There are 14 Public Holidays in a year and 9 are chosen by the government. Spain’s National Day is October 12 .In Spain there are celebrated many festivals and festivities. Some of them are known worldwide, and every year millions of people all over the world go to Spain to experience one of this festivals.One of the most famous is San Fermn, in Pamplona. While its most famous event is the encierro, or the running of the bulls, which happens at 8:00 am from 7 July to 14 July, the week long celebration involves many other traditional and folkloric events.

Tennis in Spain

Spain has produced a great number of tennis champions. Spain has won the “Davis Cup” five times(1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998). Also has won the “Fed Cup” five other times(1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998). Rafael Nadal is considered one the best spanish tennis players of all timeHe has won the French Open for four consecutive times, twice, and altogether won eight Roland Garros titles surpassing Björn Borg’s record of six French Open titles. 

Spanish Hip Hop

Spanish hip hop began in the early 1980’s. Spanish hip hop is the hip hop music produced in Spain. The hip hop culture in Spain is often socially conscious, and has a strong presence on working-class barrios (neighborhoods), but it is not limited to them. Hip hop in Spain grows strong in Madrid ,Sevilla, and more places but the scene is present in all the other regional capitals. The mean machine was first with disco rapping. Then in 1980 La Familia was born. A four man bilingual group. Don Juan was the leader, then Lou Rock, then Roski, then Indio was the last member of the group. Roski learn Don Juans Spanish rap skill in his disco form. So in 1981 Roski invented Spanish hip hop. Roski was the first to do freestyle Spanish hip hop with a dj chopping up the beats. After Roski as the years came many other Spanish rappers surfaced. 

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer was born on July 24, 1969, in the Castle Hill section of New York .While Jennifer is of Puerto Rican descent, her paternal grandmother’s parents were Europeans who settled on the island of Puerto Rico. At age 8 she attended a catholic school from a strong christian family . In high school she was a great athlete ( tennis & track ) .She became interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry following a minor role in the 1986 film My Little Girl. She remained a regular until she decided to pursue an acting career in 1993.Lopez became the first Latina actress to earn over $1 million for a role the following year, with the film Out of Sight . She now is a  famous spanish singer and actress and producer in America .
